When a tree falls, its soul lives on in the body of a sprite. Ancient and resilient spirits woven from the roots of time itself. This is Matsuko’s story.
Once two ancient sentinel trees standing side by side fell at the same time. As they fell, their essence mingled; gathered in the wind, in the final sigh of the branches as met the forest floor. From that sigh, Matsuko emerged.
She is the whisper between the evergreens, the steady pulse of the forest’s breath. She is evergreen—rooted in endurance, standing firm through storms and time.
Matsuko listens to stories that drift on the wind through the whispering branches. Stories of distant groves, of rivers that weave through the land, of creatures who have come and gone.
If you stand beneath an ancient pine, close your eyes and listen. You can hear her in the rustling of the needles, the echoes of rain-soaked soil, the laughter of birds in the canopy. She will tell you of winters that tested the forest’s strength and the summers that brought it back to life. She will share the prayers of the earth, the endless stories written in rings beneath the bark, and the silent grief of trees lost to time.
Matsuko is made from cloth and mixed media. Her hair is yarn. The pinecone adorning her hair is from an ancient pine. 11 X 4"
